🌱 What the project does

We are restoring Sri Lanka’s rainforest by planting native trees and reconnecting lost forest areas.

As founding leaders of the Hinduma Conservation Carbon Programme, we work with local communities to plant and care for over 90 species of native trees. These efforts help form a continuous natural corridor that links two important rainforest reserves and protects vulnerable ecosystems.

The project began with just 10.88 hectares of reforestation and now aims to expand to 20,000 hectares. Every tree planted supports biodiversity and helps protect one of the last pristine rainforests in the country.

Supporting Communities Through Every Cup

As part of our Planet Positive promise, Greenypeeps commits 3% of every sale to fund this initiative. These funds support local tea-farming communities — nearly 1,500 families — by providing training in sustainable agroforestry and forest stewardship.

In practice, farmers learn to integrate native trees into their gardens, protecting remnant rainforest on their land while growing tea. The result is thriving wildlife, more resilient crops, and a stable livelihood for rural families.

Hinduma is located in the southwest of Sri Lanka and is known for its rich natural heritage. It is home to one of the few remaining pristine rainforests in the country.

Years of agricultural expansion have left the forest fragmented and at risk. The Hinduma Project was created to restore these forests and help nature thrive once again.
